Product information & technical details

Description

The Bondtech INDX Tool Conversion Kit for CORE One L/+ upgrades an existing CORE One L+ into a fully fledged tool-changing system. Each material has its own dedicated path, making it possible to combine rigid and flexible parts, use soluble support materials and print multicolour models without wasting most of the spool as purge material. The kit is available in either a 4-tool or 8-tool configuration to suit your setup; the smaller kit can be upgraded to eight tools at any time.

► 4-tool or 8-tool: which version is right for you?

The 4-tool kit is ideal for getting started with multi-material printing without committing to the full configuration straight away. The mounting plate is already prepared for four additional tool positions, allowing the system to be expanded to eight tools at any time. The 8-tool kit provides the full range of material options from the outset and offers the best value per individual nozzle.

Both versions use the same Smart Head and docking station components and differ only in the number of passive toolheads and spool holders supplied.

One active head, multiple passive tools

At the heart of the system is the INDX Smart Head developed by Bondtech: an active extruder with an automatic tool pickup mechanism, rapid induction heating and contactless temperature measurement. The individual toolheads themselves are completely passive and contain no electronics of their own. This keeps the system simple and robust, while also making it comparatively inexpensive to expand from four to eight tools later on, as only passive nozzles need to be added rather than complete active toolheads.

Material changes in around 12 seconds

While some single-nozzle multi-material systems can take around 42 seconds to change filament, INDX completes a tool change in approximately 12 seconds. When printing multicolour or multi-material models, this means noticeably less waiting time and virtually no wasted filament.

Induction heating instead of slow heat-up times

The moving Smart Head contains an induction coil that heats the nozzle of the selected tool to operating temperature contactlessly and within seconds. As soon as the tool is returned to its dock, it cools down quickly, helping to prevent material from oozing from the nozzle.

Automatic tool calibration

A tool-offset sensor mounted permanently outside the print area automatically calibrates the alignment of all toolheads relative to one another. The process takes only around 15 seconds per toolhead, making it approximately twenty times faster than the previous mechanical-pin calibration method while also providing greater repeatability.

Precise bed levelling for every material change

Before each print, the nozzle itself probes the build plate. A force sensor mechanically detects the contact point, providing greater precision than purely optical methods. This allows tools and nozzle sizes to be changed as often as required without having to recalibrate the printer each time.

Self-adjusting filament grip

Soft materials such as TPU require a different level of pressure from rigid, fibre-reinforced filaments. The system's Dynamic Dual Drive automatically adjusts the drive tension to suit the material, allowing users to switch between flexible and engineering filaments without manually readjusting the extruder.

Clean starts with an integrated nozzle wiper

A double-sided silicone wiper cleans and primes the nozzle every time a tool is picked up. Only a minimal amount of plastic is extruded to stabilise the print flow, and this drops directly into a waste container. No conventional purge tower is required, so valuable build volume is not sacrificed.

Material compatibility up to 300 °C

The standard 0.4 mm nozzles are made from surface-hardened, nitrocarburised steel and are suitable for PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PC, PA, TPU, PVA, BVOH and other non-abrasive materials at nozzle temperatures of up to 300 °C. They are not designed for continuous use with abrasive filaments.

Heated chamber remains fully available

The CORE One L+'s actively heated 60 °C chamber remains fully functional with INDX installed. The docking station and wiper reduce the build volume only slightly, by around 2 mm on the X axis and 15 mm on the Y axis.
